Borsa Istanbul pushes ahead on Islamic finance

Extending the product range, standardising the regulatory infrastructure, strengthening human resources, and raising awareness on Islamic finance are areas still needing improvement.

This is the take of the top official at Borsa İstanbul, which brings together all the exchanges operating in the Turkish capital markets under a single roof.

"We have so far taken many steps from sukuk issues to introducing various financial products and establishment of the World Bank Global Islamic Finance Development Center, but we still have a long way to go," said Borsa Ostanbul chairman/CEO Dr. İbrahim M. Turhan.  "Borsa İstanbul continues its efforts to make İstanbul the center of Islamic Finance."

He was speaking at the first volume of Islamic Finance Conference Series, a two-day event, with the theme "Implications of Participation Model in Finance" which began on March 3.
